Healing Chance Equine Manual Therapy

My Philosophy: I believe that all horses are natural athletes, whether they are competing in racing, dressage, jumping, Western disciplines, or trail riding. Even if they are not involved in competitive training at all, and their job is simply to be a companion animal or a backyard pet for petting and loving, the fact is that nature designed them as athletes. As with any athlete, physical and psychological systems sometimes break or wear down under strain, and unfortunate accidents can happen as well; however, regardless of the cause, the sooner an individual can be returned to pain-free daily activity, the better chance they have for complete healing.
Horses have survived for millions of years and have had a chance to hone their survival skills for a very long time. Not only are they “flight animals,” with superior senses, agility, and speed, but they also possess highly developed self-healing abilities. Thus, it is often the case that my job is simply to help initiate a horse’s own healing processes by gentle techniques that work using the innate powers of recovery endowed by nature.

Personal History:
Ever since I was a little girl I’ve felt a connection and fascination with horses. I
started riding when I was 7-years old, and I labored for free around the local
stables in my homeland of Finland in hopes of obtaining riding lessons, and
also just to be near these beloved animals. In my quest to learn correct riding,
I've long been curious to observe their strength and intelligence, and their ability
to communicate with each other and judge their surroundings for survival. I
came to realize that horses are very sensitive and, in many ways, fragile
animals. When my own horse, Tipper (left), was injured in a fall—long before I
began my study of the healing path—I found that even my love, compassion, and
best intentions weren’t enough to bring him back to health. I felt helpless and
sick with my inability to relieve his pain, especially after the treating Dr. of
Veterinarian told me that there was not much he could do to alleviate his
problem. This single event became the catalyst for my journey to learn
therapeutic techniques and holistic healing methods, and with each new step I’
ve taken, that conviction has only grown stronger.
As with any healing discipline, the more I learn, the more I
see opportunities for improvement in my prospective
clients all around me; I’ve come to realize that there are a
great many horses in chronic pain and that, just like my
beloved Tipper, try to function to their best abilities, do
what they are asked to do, eventually becoming frustrated
by their disabilities, and the worst of all, feel thwarted by
their inability to communicate their pain in a manner that
is readily understandable to their owners. This is when I
realized that my passion is to help these magnificent
animals. There is truly no better reward for me than to be
able to witness physical and psychological
improvements with each therapy session, until the day I
am no longer needed. My greatest reward is always to
see a happy and healthy animal that no longer requires
another call back to visit by its owner.

Mission and About Me
Mission:
My goal is to help rehabilitate horses using manual and other alternative therapies to fully restore the
animal’s anatomical and kinetic systems’ normal functions, and to enable our equine friends to enjoy
pain-free daily lives and successful careers. My holistic approach to helping horses to cope with their
pain and inabilities incorporates several modalities of healing, such as Integrative Manual Therapy
(IMT), S.C.E.N.A.R. biofeedback therapy, massage, myofascial release, and homeopathic remedies,
among others. These modalities address all anatomical systems of the body, as well as focusing
upon kinetic motion issues, nutritional imbalances, and psychological aspects that can lead to
physical disorders, in order to ensure an individual’s speedy return to daily life as a healthy and happy
animal.
